What started as a simple laser cut project became a brand. Given an assignment to make a laser-cut design, I made candle holders. The market for candle holders isn’t large, and the same concepts are constantly being used. I wanted my design to stand out, so I made them fun and gave them a monster theme. I came up with the monster theme after rewatching Monster Inc. one day.

In Progress

Most candle holders replicate the shape of a candle jar, and you place the candle inside. Then, you must wait for it to cool before changing the candles. For my candle holders, you simply place the candle in the monster's mouth like a coaster and can remove it once finished without waiting for it to cool.  I originally designed and manufactured them using cardboard, but I didn’t like the result due to the end product, so I switched to wood.

The demographic I am reaching out to is anyone who loves candles. After producing the candle holders, I packaged them and marketed them as a company rather than as products. The name Mr.Munsters came from the 1960’s show The Munsters. With the name and the product ready, I began working on the packaging. When designing the packaging, I wanted consumers to be able to test the product at the store. Creating a di-cut in the packaging would allow consumers to try different candles to ensure they fit.
